Complete Dentures

Complete dentures are a type of denture that is used to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. They can be placed on the top, bottom, or both angles. They are customized to every patient and will help restore your smile and function to its original state without discomfort.

Getting dentures is simple if your gums are in good condition. However, there are instances when we may need to make a restoration before the dentures can be fitted. Such instances include:

  • Removing any injured teeth or gums.
  • Healing infections.
  • Ensuring there are no other issues or potential issues that could happen shortly.

Once your check-up has happened and any issues have been fixed, we will take impressions and measurements of your mouth and jaw to make sure your dentures will have an exact fit. The process for getting dentures varies based on your needs and required outcome.

Complete dentures can be made from acrylic or a plastic composite. However, the most suggested material for dentures is acrylic, which typically lasts longer for patients as long as they are correctly cared for. When caring for your dentures, it is essential to remember that dentures should be cleaned daily with a denture-friendly cleaner and placed in a denture solution overnight. It is important to note that even with proper care, a denture repair may be needed for various reasons.

Complete Dentures vs Complete Dentures on Dental Implants

The difference between complete and complete dentures on dental implants is that full dentures are removable and sit along the surface of the gums. In contrast, dentures on implants are snapped onto the implants that are screwed into the bone and can be removable or fixed. Complete dentures are the most usual form of total arch replacement; however, complete dentures on dental implants are a close second. Both treatments are used to help replace missing teeth and give your mouth full function, but they both require different procedures and care.

Complete dentures are removable devices that are taken out during the night and soaked in a denture solution. They are typically made of acrylic, as it is reported as being the most comfortable material to use. Unlike dental implants, complete dentures rarely require surgery to achieve your smile goals and function.

In comparison, dental implants are made of titanium and are inserted into the bone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once the implants have been inserted into the bone, a set of dentures are snapped on top of them. This form of tooth replacement is popular because of its similarity to natural teeth and because it keeps facial structure and bite function.

Standard Dentures

Standard dentures are the most generic form of dentures. These types of dentures allow patients to choose the shade and shape they would like for their teeth, even though the options tend to be limited as these are standard. This form of denture also wears slightly quicker than alternatives because it is the most basic and affordable form of replacing missing teeth. Although, if properly cared for, standard dentures can last several years, they may begin to stain and wear as time passes.

This type of denture may require more adjustments than precision dentures because patients must wear them briefly to feel them out. Once a patient is familiar with how they function in their mouth, we can adjust them for a more comfortable fit.

Precision Dentures

Compared to standard dentures, precision dentures are designed to fit precisely in a patient’s mouth to ensure comfort and functionality. When patients receive precision dentures, they will have an impression and measurements taken of their mouth. After an initial image is taken, there is a second impression, which will allow us to analyze the surrounding gums and tissues. This is translated into measurements, which will prepare customization for your precision dentures.

Many patients prefer precision dentures as they are more comfortable and are designed to move with your jaw, which will give you a better range of motion when eating or speaking. Not only do precision dentures ensure natural jaw movement and function, but they also make your smile look natural and help shape your face. Additionally, they require fewer adjustments because of their accuracy and durability.

Standard Dentures vs Precision Dentures

There is a vast difference between standard and precision dentures. Standard dentures are just that, standard, but they are popular because of their affordability. Precision dentures are the top form of dentures a patient can receive due to their customization and accuracy. Precision dentures are designed to work efficiently with jaw movement, which provides a patient with a more natural and comfortable smile. Precision dentures also include gum appearance, which allows us to reshape the dentures before they are made. This type of denture is desired for patients with a more natural-looking smile.
